Prop 8 must remain in place while supporters file appeal

One day after US District Court Judge Vaughn Walker struck down California’s ban on same-sex marriage, anti-gay supporters of the law have formally notified the Court of their decision to appeal.

Reuters reports that supporters of Proposition 8 have written to Judge Walker saying that they intend to appeal to the ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals.

Supporters of the law have argued that it should remain in place until the case is heard by a high court. As a result, Judge Walker has ordered that the amendment blocking gay marriage remain whilst both sides of the case file papers with the court.
