London HIV charity The Naz Project is facing closure unless it is able to raise £75,000 by the end of October. With draconian cuts proposed for gay charities’ funding, on top of a decrease in donations, its story is sadly likely to become a common one…
The Naz Project, an HIV charity for ethnic minorities, says it was hit hard by the recession and though it has already raised £3,000 says it is not enough to keep the charity going.
The charity was set up 20 years ago and is funded by a number of sources, including the Big Lottery Fund and the Department of Health.
The Naz Project spends the majority of its funds on charitable activities and last year alone the charity spent £842,000 of its £890,093 income on such events.
