The British Film Institute’s 54th London Film Festival, which opened last Wednesday, is showing five gay-themed films.

One of these films is For 80 Days, directed by José Mari Goenaga, which tells the story of two elderly women who are reunited in a chance meeting 50 years after losing touch with one another.

Also showing are: Ferzan Ozpetek’s Loose Cannons, which focuses on two brothers who both decide to come out as gay; JB Ghuman Jr’s Spork, which follows the life of a high school student who was born intersex; a feature-length documentary on gay identity by American filmmakers entitled Word Is Out; and Kaushik Ganguly’s controversail Just Another Love Story, which hopes to “shake the foundations of contemporary Indian sexuality”.
