It has been a while since I have been absolutely disgusted, but let me tell you, the demonstrations by Muslims Against Crusades during the two-minute silence for Armistice Day, did just that.
Just three miles across London from the official Armistice Day ceremony at Cenotaph, giant poppies were being burnt and demonstrators shouted whilst carrying signs condemning British soldiers to hell.
London usually finds itself silent and still during the 11am silence, but over at Kensington, the protestors offered no such respect, instead they chanted slogans about what was happening in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A spokesman for the group, Asad Ullah, said: “We find it disgusting that innocent people, innocent children, have been killed in an illegal and unjust war and we are demonstrating against that.”
I completely agree with Mr Ullah, I am totally against the unnecessary violence in the Middle East. Indeed, it is an unjust war and many innocent people have died. I completely stand with them in their decision to protest against such a war- I myself have taken part in demos against the war in Iraq. But to disrespect all those British soldiers that have lost their lives in not just this war, but World War I and II also, it is simply unforgivable. It is not the soldiers who started this war; they are simply following their orders. If you’re looking for blame, look at the world powers.
