R.I.O is a 22-year-old artist hailing from Manchester and if you haven’t at least heard of his name you must have been living under a rock. His debut mixtape featured the likes of T.Bizzle, Hypes, Shifty and Mac D and he’s part of two music collectives with whom he absolutely smashed the underground radio and club scene, StreetSmartEnt and Hit Em Up.
Also hailing from the ever-growing Manchester grime scene is Shifty. By the age of 16 he had already secured himself a regular spot on a local radio station after becoming a member of Mayhem Crew and a cameo on BBC 1Xtra. After releasing Get Your Hustle On Vol 1 and Vol 2, he’s got the world at his feet.
Finally there’s Ghetts. Unlike the other two he’s an east London boy born and bred. He’s one of the biggest rising stars in grime and has most recently recorded a very special track, Invisible. In this song Ghetts is appealing to young people to stand up and be noticed by taking part in next year’s census.
“Now what have these three got in common?” I hear you say. Well, let me tell you, We Love Grime.
The three have come together to bring us the banging new track, We Love Grime. The song comes from R.I.O’s mixtape Bottom To The Top which was released on the 1 October. Undoubtedly We Love Grime is the one that people will remember from the tape.
Not only has R.I.O hooked up with Shifty but also Londoner Ghetts and the spitting is on point. The lyrics are witty and thoughtful and the bass is heavy. What more could you want?!
The video is also undoubtedly one of the best we’ve seen for a long time. It’s very apt at the moment as well as it features the three trekking through the snow. A lot of online fans have point out that it reminds them of Professor Green’s Upper Clapton Dancemusic video, but I can’t say I really see that. What are your thoughts?
