Prometheus preview

Ridley Scott returns with his first sci-fi film since Blade Runner (1982). Fans have been waiting with bated breath for the release of Prometheus, the might-be or might-not-be Alien prequel, since 2012 when Scott announced his intention to do a prequel to the 1979 blockbuster.

Scott brought in Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof to rewrite Jon Spaihts’s early script of the supposed prequel, which has apparently turned out to be something “quite different” to what the legendary director was expecting. Whilst the trailer might nod in the direction of Alien, from the overall style right down to the title font used, the studio seemed to have downplayed the connection to the 1979 space-horror epic. Scott however has said that the movie shares the same DNA as the other Alien films. Not quite sure what that’s supposed to mean…

Due to hit US screens in June this year, the film stars Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce, Patrick Wilson and Idris Elba as a troupe of explorers who discover a clue as to the origins of the human species on Earth – and our possible extinction. According to Scott, Prometheus deals with some pretty dark concepts about not only our ‘birth’ on this planet, but also our eventual downfall.
